I am currently reading Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the Gods and finding it fascinating.  While I am not necessarily convinced of everything covered in the text, Hancock does, I think, make some very good points and this made me curious about his newest book Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization.

Having a relatively long reading list however, I took the short cut and went looking for video on Hancock's recent underwater research and found it!

I'm pleased to say that the complete video "Underworld: Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age" may be found embedded beneath this short article and that this video provides some great information about Graham Hancock's ongoing research into ancient civilization as discussed in the book Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization.

Providing a comprehensive survey of underwater archaeology around the world, the film makes a compelling case for the existence of several discrete and exceedingly old coastal civilizations (now covered by water). The hypothesis that many of these civilizations were inundated by floods caused by rising water levels at the close of the last ice age, approximately 12,000 years ago, seems to be quite consistent with a modern understanding of climate.

Scientists agree that the Earth has been in an interglacial period known as the Holocene for approximately 12,000 years (placing the end of the last ice age just before this period). These dates are surprisingly consistent with the reported sinking of Atlantis placed by Plato at 9000 years prior to Greek civilization or approximately 11,500 before our time. Having a strong interest in ancient sacred texts, I have long found the repetition of flood "myth" in a multitude of cultures worldwide compelling.

Why would, as most mainstream scholars claim, so many diverse and far flung ancient cultures fabricate such a very similar story?

I also find it interesting, if only incidentally,  that the Halocene Calendar (which begins with the Julian calendar year 10000 BC) counts the year 2012 AD as 12012 HE (Halocene Era). Such is the nature of coincidence.
"Again there comes a humiliation, destruction and demolition. The manikins, woodcarvings [of the gods] were killed when the Heart of Sky devised a flood for them. A great flood was made; it came down on the heads of the manikins...They were not competent, nor did they speak before the builder and sculptor who made them and brought them forth, and so they were killed, done in by a flood."
~The Polpol Vuh, the ancient Quiché Mayan Book of Creation (originally written in Mayan hieroglyphs) as translated by Dr. Dennis Tedlock professor of anthropology and religion at Boston University.
