Amphibia - Guardian of Frogs by Kim Dreyer
After a lifetime of not winning contests, I am thrilled to announce that I am the grand prize winner of the coolest contest ever. My prize? To be featured in a painting by the amazing South African fantasy artist Kim Dreyer and to receive my own A4 art print of the finished work.

And if that is not enough - this print will be included in Kim's upcoming oracle deck "A Conscious Spirit Oracle Deck!" Being included in this deck is a truly amazing honor.  It synchronizes nicely with my recent oracle deck epiphany, as well, reminding me of my intent to address that topic here.

Just a few short weeks ago I had very little interest in oracle decks as a whole. Having read tarot for over 40 years, I had never seriously worked with an oracle deck and wasn't quite sure why anyone would want to.

Tarot, I reasoned, supplied all the information I needed, information that was both highly specific and layered with complexity. You can spend a lifetime learning tarot. Oracle decks seemed to me general and somewhat limited in comparison.  A recent tarot reading by my good friend and incredible psychic, Tara Miller, however changed my opinion on oracle cards completely.

In the past, Tara had read for me pretty exclusively with traditional tarot or playing cards. In this reading she did things a little differently, beginning with tarot, as always, and closing with a single card from  Doreen Virtue's Goddess Guidance Oracle.

You can read an in depth account of this reading and the insight it afforded me in my recent post  Synchronicity Times Three: Life Purpose and Card Reading. But the point I'd like to make here is that this method worked so well for me that I have now incorporated a single closing oracle card into all of my readings and encourage all tarot readers to try this on for size.  Here's why.

Most oracle decks have a decidedly positive energy. In my admittedly limited experience, all are filled with affirmations, validation and encouragement. Offering advice rather than absolutes, they compliment and reinforce a reading, closing even the most difficult session in a gentle and optimistic manner. And what better way is there to end any interaction than with hope?

Additionally oracle cards are a great way to start the day, a quick warm bit of advice for any problem and a wonderful meditative tool. For those of us who favor contemplative readings, they are delightfully open-ended and expansive.

Please check back for my upcoming article on the Doreen Virtue Goddess Guidance Oracle cards. Later this month: More about Kim Dreyer, her breathtaking artwork and an artist's insight into what goes into the creation and production of an original oracle deck.

Kim's oracle deck and accompanying book are slated for release in early 2012. The theme of the oracle is "awakening the spirit and rekindling the connection between the cosmos and the earth." Please take a moment to visit Kim's website at KimDreyerArt.com to learn how you can be placed on the waiting list for this lovely deck!

UPDATE: The Conscious Spirit Oracle Deck is now available through Amazon!

  1. Thanks so much for the wonderful, kind words in this great post! I am no longer amazed at how synchronicity works - it's become part of my life - I now simply smile in grateful acknowledgement. You were meant to win this!

I find it so interesting to read what you say about using tarot cards and your new insight into oracle decks. I have always used oracle decks - I own a tarot but never use it! Maybe it is my turn to delve further into the use of tarot?!

  2. Hi Kim :) You are so welcome! Isn't it funny how these things seem to happen more and more, once you begin to acknowledge them? Makes me think that they were there all along, albeit unappreciated!

I'm very glad you liked the article. I think that combining a bit of tarot with your oracle readings could be fun for you. Start out with a two or three card spread and see where it takes you.

    Love & Light,
