Couldn't resist the headline. And in fact, its true. Our first meeting was lovely and I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful group of people!
Creating community is a concept that can be approached in many different ways. My vision is that it be a no strings attached, open to everyone, each voice counts endeavor. In keeping with this the NEPA Metaphysical Society has no dues or rules and everyone has a say.
In this, our first, meeting we decided on a simple format of group meditation, book study or activity followed by a general discussion. Group trips and outings such as gathering in a natural setting and a possible future trip to Lily Dale, NY were discussed.
Most members expressed an interest in concentrated study. I'm asking everyone bring a suggestion to the next meeting. This could be a topic of interest, specific material for further study or a focused activity (such as psychic development exercises, a drumming circle or group past life regression).
It was suggested that reading selected chapters of chosen texts rather than entire books may work best for many of us. I also personally feel that reading the material need not be mandatory and that those who don't have time to prepare will still benefit from the discussion.
We will need to decide as a group if we want to select topics / activities / materials in turns or go with what appeals to the majority.
The meeting frequency was set at every other Tuesday from 7 to 9:30 PM. Light refreshments will be available and we will have a donation jar available as well. My thought is that people contribute small amounts to cover the cost of the Meetup dues ($15 monthly). It would be nice to have a treasurer to take charge of any extra money which might be applied to a future activity or event.
Our discussion was interesting and eclectic but always metaphysical in nature. Topics included animal totems, Jungian psychology, mediumship, reincarnation, paranormal investigation, personal experience, psychic sensitivity, spirit guides and much, much more. On a personal level I felt very connected almost as if we had met before.
And perhaps we have.
Thanks to everyone for making our first meeting such a wonderful experience!
